LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Things are heating up at just the right time for Head Coach David Goodman's Biola Men's Tennis team. The Eagles defeated Wooster 9-0 on Friday night to win their third match in a row and improve to 5-7 overall.
 
This peak in performance is happening at just the right time for the Eagles as the third win comes just before Biola is set for a rematch with No. 13 San Diego Christian tomorrow.
 
"We played well tonight all the way through the match. Energy was good and we were able to sustain solid play," said Goodman. "Wooster had played a match earlier today and looked a little tired. After we got up 3-0 we took control of the match and the guys won pretty quickly."
 
The match was less than three hours as the Eagles earned some close wins at doubles and then six straight-set wins in singles play. One of the highlights of the win was No. 2 doubles. Luke Mountain and Phil Westwood combined for the fourth time this season, improving to 3-1 together with an impressive 8-0 win.
 
Another highlight from the match was Goodman's ability to insert some guys into the lineup that do not traditionally see as much time. One of those guys was Jacob Vanderbeek, who played his first singles match of the season at No. 6. He won his match against Craig Deng in straight sets (6-1; 6-0).
 
"It was good to get Jacob in the singles and give him an opportunity to show what he can do," said Goodman.
 
It was also good to see the doubles pairing of David Garcia and Michael Vartuli be reunited for the first time this season. It's their first time playing together this year, but the 21^st time overall.
 
Their match was the most intense of all three doubles pairings. They won the match 9-8 after winning a tiebreaker.
 
"Today was really about preparing for San Diego tomorrow," said Goodman. "That is a big conference match for us and playing a match the night before is a good way to prepare. Hopefully that will continue our play into tomorrow"
