Historic Season Ends on National Stage

Eagles make program history with first NCAA Championship appearance

SURPRISE, Ariz.---The Biola men's tennis team ended a historic season at the 2026 NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championships.

The 12th-seeded Eagles faced 5th-seed Catawba College in the first round of the national championship. 

Despite a great effort, Biola ended up falling 4-0 to Catawba College. Biola lost a hard-fought doubles point. Adam Large and Keyon Gahvarehchi fell 3-6 on the third court and Pol Masafret Hernandez and Juan Vallejo lost 4-6 on the second. Angel Guerrero Melgar and Alejandro Flores Monteverde's match on the first court was halted at 4-4.

The Eagles would fall on courts one, six and three in singles. Guerrero Melgar lost 0-6, 1-6 on the first court, Gahvarehchi fell 2-6, 3-6 on the sixth court and Large lost 3-6, 4-6 on the third.

Biola was battling on courts two, four and five. Flores Monteverde won his first set 6-3, lost his second set 4-6 and was about to begin his third set on the second court. Masafret Hernandez was just about to win his match on the fourth court. He won his first set 6-2 and was up 5-4 in the second. Vallejo won his first set 7-5 and was tied 3-3 in his second on the fifth court.

The Eagles have a lot to be proud of. They were the runners up at the PacWest Conference Championships, won their Regional and advanced to the NCAA DII National Championship for the first time in program history.
