Doubles Duo Earns All-American Status

Alejandro Flores Monteverde and Angel Guerrero Melgar named All-Americans by ITA.

LA MIRADA---Biola men's tennis standouts Alejandro Flores Monteverde and Angel Guerrero Melgar capped off a historic season by earning Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) First Team All-America honors in doubles.

"These guys put in a lot of work over the course of the season to be one of the best doubles pairings in the nation," stated head coach David Goodman. "Alex has improved a lot over the course of the last three years and has steadily become quite the doubles specialist. Angel, as a grad transfer came in with a lot of experience. He is an excellent returner and serves really well. Their game styles seem to compliment each other and that is a huge reason why they have had so much success this year."

The duo was one of just 10 doubles teams in NCAA Division II to receive the prestigious recognition. Doubles teams earn All-America status by finishing in the top 10 of the final ITA National Doubles Rankings.

Flores Monteverde and Guerrero Melgar anchored one of the most successful seasons in Biola men's tennis history. The pair competed at the No. 1 doubles position throughout the spring and posted a 7-2 record against top competition. They secured key victories over conference rivals Point Loma and Azusa Pacific while climbing to No. 1 in the national rankings during the season.

The tandem remained nationally ranked in all seven ITA ranking releases and claimed the ITA West Regional Men's Open Doubles Championship during the fall season, establishing themselves as one of the premier doubles teams in NCAA Division II.

Both Eagles also earned First Team All-PacWest honors in singles and doubles.
