CORONA, Calif. --- Biola Men's Golf began Holy Week with an 11-hour day out on the golf course. Head Coach Hank Woodrome's team kicked off play at the CBU Invite at Eagle Glen Golf Course in Corona, California with two rounds on Monday.
 
The Eagles sit in 13^th overall in a 16-team field with 15 NCAA Division II schools and Biola. Three rounds in the 70s keyed a 305 in round one that is what carried the Eagles to the 13^th-place standing. Biola followed that up with a second round 314 to put the team five strokes back from 12^th and four strokes ahead of 14^th.
 
"It was a long day on the golf course. The last nine of the final 18 was very windy and tough conditions, which affected our team score," said Woodrome. "We still have to learn to grind it out and close our rounds better. We are throwing away shots, which hurts our team score."
 
One guy who was definitely not hurting the team score on Monday was Austin Bishop. The freshman sits inside of the top-5 in the individual leaderboard thanks to two very strong rounds in the 70s. He followed a first round 73 with a remarkable 70 in the challenging second round conditions. He was one of just two Eagles to drop his score between rounds on day one. His combined score of 143 (-1) puts him one stroke out of a tie for third, two strokes out of second and three strokes behind the leader with 18 holes to play.
 
"Austin played the first 11 holes in the afternoon at five under par," said Woodrome. "Hopefully he can have another good round Tuesday and be in the hunt for first, second or third."

Bishop's strong day was powered by a -3 performance on par-5s and the fact that he shot eight birdies on the day, which tied him for the third-most at the tournament.
 
The rest of the Eagles find themselves between 51^st and 84^th as no one else could manage a score in the 70s during the second round.

The final 18 holes of the tournament will be played in cool, sunny conditions on Tuesday morning.
