LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. --- The Biola Eagles played the first of their three rounds at The Wigwam Golf Club for the PacWest Golf Championships on Monday, shooting 313 as a team to sit in eighth place after day one.

All three of Head Coach Cory Page's seniors got off to great starts on Monday. Dominic Ariondo shot par on each on each his first six holes and birdied eight to card an even 36 on the front nine. Kyle McAbee started his day with a birdie and followed with another on four as he got through the first nine holes with 38 strokes. And Austin Bishop sat squarely in the top five of the leaderboard after the front nine with two birdies and seven pars.

"Overall, we didn't play what we're capable of, but the guys have a really positive attitude moving into the second round tomorrow, so hopefully we can go out early tomorrow morning and turn in a great round," said Coach Page. "We just need to eliminate the big numbers that have plagued us the last few events."

The Eagles will look to avoid the trouble they ran into on the back nine on days two and three. But even with the bogeys to close the round, Biola still had good results overall and showed signs of a possible run up the leaderboard. Ariondo finished with a 77 to card his best first round since the La Verne Dual Match on Nov. 7, 2018 and had Biola's second best score.

McAbee added two more birdies on 11 and 14 to tie for the most birdies out of any player in the field on Monday. And with three of those under-par holes coming on par-fives, he's one of just nine players to finished two-under on par-five holes during the first round.

Bishop showed from the get-go that he has the capability of winning this tournament and played the majority of his round in the top-10 of the individual leaderboard. He finished the day with a par on five-straight holes from 13 to 17 and in a tie for 14th place. But Bishop is just three shots behind the top-five with 36 holes left.

"Austin hit a lot of quality shots today, especially his approach shots, both from the fairway and when he missed the fairway," said Coach Page "Austin took a double bogey on the final hole but overall played really well."

Scott Hatfield and Kaden Page each turned in an 83 for the Eagles' last countable score. That continues an improved trend for Hatfield, who has shot five-straight rounds at 83 or better since he shot an 82 to conclude the Biola Spring Invite. He finished the round while four-straight par scores while Page used a birdie on six to shoot a 40 on the front nine.

The teams will return the Wigwam GC on Tuesday for round two.
