Hatfield Snags Career-Best

Scott Hatfield was Biola's second-best finisher smashing his previous 54-hole best.

April 02, 2019

TURLOCK, Calif. --- Biola had three players shoot rounds in the 70s as it improved by seven strokes during the final round of competition at the 2019 Hanny Stanislaus Invitational.

The Eagles still ended the tournament in 17th after finishing 12 strokes off of overtaking Notre Dame de Namur for 16th. The team still had plenty to be happy about with improved numbers during the final day of play in a tough, tough field that included four teams in the top-20 in NCAA Division II and eight teams ranked in the top-50.

Austin Bishop had the top effort of the day for BU, finishing just one stroke off par with a 73. It was fifth time this season that Bishop's finished one-over or better. He finished his tournament with a three-round tally of 225 (+9) to place 48th in the field of over 90 golfers.

Scott Hatfield put together his best three-round score of his career with a third round of 79 and ended the tournament as Biola's no. 2 scorer. Hatfield's 54-hole total of 235 (+19) was good enough for 72nd and was 22 strokes better than his previous career best. For the second time this tournament he had no score higher than bogey. All but one of his nine-hole scores this tournament came in at 40 or less.

After Hatfield came Kyle McAbee. The senior added two strokes from yesterday's round two score to shoot an 83 and slip to 241 overall (+25). He finished in a tie for 80th. McAbee had a solid round with a lot of pars but had a trio of double bogeys that dragged his score down a bit.

The third Eagle to manage a round in the 70s was Dominic Ariondo. It was a solid bounce back from Ariondo who ended day one as the highest scorer of the Eagles' five counting players. He hit a 78 in the third round to drop five strokes from round two and move up to just one stroke behind McAbee for the tournament. Ariondo's round was built by limiting to seven bogeys and hitting everything else at par or under. His strength from day one (even on par-3s) turned into a struggle on day two as he bogeyed all but one of the par-3s on the course.

Kaden Page shot his second 83 of the tournament to end his trip with a 246 (+30). It's an eight-stroke improvement from the last time out at the Biola Invitational but is still higher than his season-average. Expect him to bounce back at the PacWest Championships later this month in Arizona.

Biola closes out its final season at the PacWest Men's Golf Championships at The Wigwam Golf Club in Litchfield Park, Ariz. on April 22-24. The Eagles finished seventh of 10 at last year's championship and come into this season's event ranked seventh of eight among PacWest teams.
