BUCKEYE, Ariz. --- The 2015-16 Biola Men's Golf season began with a finish three sports better than Biola got at any point during its eight tournament appearances in 2014-15.
 
The Eagles tied for second place among the seven teams competing at the season-opening Arizona Christian University Firestorm Fall Invitational with a three-round score of 903 (+39).

"I was very pleased overall with our consistency and our performance," said Head Coach Hank Woodrome. "This was our best team performance in a long, long time, which makes me very excited for this year." 
 
The host school won the tournament with an 884 (+20). Biola tied for second with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (AZ). Biola improved its finish four places from last year's sixth of six teams finish at the then two round tournament.
 
Freshman Austin Bishop and Senior William Langworthy were Biola's standout performers at Verrado Golf Club this week. They duo both finished inside of the top-5, which is both golfers' first career top-5 indiviudal finish.
 
Langworthy's top-5 finish comes in his 21^st tournament representing Biola and Bishop's comes in his very first.
 
The freshman made a splash with his round two total of 69, which was the lowest single round shot by a men's golfer at Biola since 2012 and the fifth-lowest all-time. He was the Eagles' highest individual finisher at the end of the third round, coming in third overall with a 219 (+3).
 
Langworthy shot a 75 in the third round to drop just one stroke behind Bishop and finish in a tie for fourth place overall. He was the only Eagle to shoot all three rounds under 75 for the tournament (71-74-75).
 
All but one of Biola's 15 scorecards for the tournament came in at under 80, which helped the team to its best team finish since a runner-up finish at the 2011-12 GSAC/CalPac Championship. The final team score of 903 is the sixth-lowest three-round team score in program history.

"The course played a little harder today with pockets of swirling wind and some tough pin placements," said Woodrome. "The team was very consistent once again with all scores coming in the 70s."
 
Rounding out the Eagles' scoring in this tournament was freshman Kyle McAbee who placed tied for 16^th with a 230 (+14), sophomore Cameron Bauer who finished tied for 23^rd with a 235 (+19) and sophomore Samuel Shih who came in 25^th with a 237 (+21).
 
Woodrome's young team returns to action Sept. 27-28 back in Arizona for the Embry-Riddle Co-Ed Invite.
