LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Volleyball ended its 2015 season last week with a run into the quarterfinals at the NAIA National Tournament. The team ended the year with a 30-4 overall mark in another outstanding season riddled with standout performances.
 
Four student-athletes stood out just enough to be recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association with AVCA/NAIA Regional Awards. Alyssa Mason, Britta Blaser and Joclyn Kirton were honored with All-Southwest Region recognition, while Christina DenBoer earned All-Southwest Region honorable mention status.
 
The Eagles' assistant coach, Abbie Wright, was named the region's assistant coach of the year. This was Wright's third season as Head Coach Aaron Seltzer's lead assistant. She directs Biola's strength and conditioning program, calls the Eagles' serves and takes care of many other day-to-day duties throughout the year.
 
Kirton, Mason and Blaser all earn the recognition at the end of their senior season, while DenBoer is recognized for the first time following her freshman campaign.
 
This is the third career all-region honor for Mason and Kirton, who are also both seeking their third career All-American honors. Blaser earns all-region recognition for the first time in her career rewarding her for the team-first role she's played over her four tremendous seasons.
 
Kirton led Biola's attack this season with 365 kills. She got herself over 1,000 career kills during her senior year as she ends her four-year career with 1,213 total kills. She hit .323 this season to set a new career-best and lift her career hitting percentage to .266.
 
Mason missed a handful of games with injury in the middle of the Golden State Athletic Conference season, but when she was in the mix for the Eagles she was one of the best players in the country. She slid over to middle blocker this season to fill the hole left by former NAIA Player of the Year Amy Weststeyn and she excelled.
 
The long, strong senior from Redlands ended the year with 318 kills and a hitting percentage of .439 that led the NAIA. She finishes her three years as an Eagle with 995 career kills and a career attack percentage of .315. Where she truly made her presence known this season was in the blocking game. She had 118 total blocks this season, which was 44 more than her previous season-best.
 
For Blaser this honor is a reward for four years of incredibly hard work and refining of raw talent. The powerful outside hitter unleashed her wrath on Biola's opponents this season en route to compiling a career-best 300 total kills. She upper her attack percentage to .288 and was one of Head Coach Aaron Seltzer's most consistent attacking options from game one to game 34 this season.
 
DenBoer earned all-region honorable mention status after putting out an impressive first collegiate season. She was a force on the left side for Biola throughout the year stepping into big shoes as Mason slid over to the middle. She appeared in 32 of the Eagles' 34 matches and finished with the fourth-most kills on the team (215). She'll be looked to as a leader on the court next year as the Eagles lose eight seniors and get real young, real quick.
 
These all-region recipients are eligible to be named NAIA All-Americans. The All-American list is released Tuesday.
