SAN MARCOS, Calif. --- It was an absolute perfect day for some golf at Twin Oaks Golf Course in San Marcos, California as Biola's men and women's golf teams competed on day one of the CSU San Marcos Fall Invite on Monday.
 
Both teams find themselves in the middle of the pack after the first day with some consistent performances from the men and a handful of low scores coming from the women.
 
The women's side played just one round on the opening day of the tournament and sits in a tie for fifth in the eight-team field. The women combined to shoot a 317, which puts them within 10 strokes of second place, but far back from the tournament leader Point Loma, which shot a 286.
 
Mychaela Graf and Jasmine Rodriguez were the standouts for Head Coach Jane Carr's squad on day one of the competition as they both came in with scores in the mid-70s and find themselves in the top-10.

Graf's 75 led the way and has her in a tie for eighth place overall. Rodriguez carded a 76 to sit just behind her freshman counterpart in a tie for 10^th.
 
Lauren Van Horn, Sarah Paravia and Mary Karnazes round out Biola's scorers all shooting scores in the 80s and placing between 20^th and 33^rd in the field of 43 individuals.

The women conclude play at the beautiful Southern California course on Tuesday morning.
 
The men's side had 36 holes to get through on the first day and was remarkably consistent in putting up back-to-back 298s. The combined score of 596 puts Biola in 9^th of 11 teams after day one. The Eagles are within 11 strokes of sixth place heading into the final round with a chance to move up a few spots.
 
"We're a little disappointed we're not further up in the standings," said Head Coach Hank Woodrome. "We'll do our best to catch a few teams tomorrow."
 
Biola's men shot well enough to be higher up in the standings with all 10 rounds coming in the 70s and half of them coming in the lower half of the 70s, it just was not enough to be further up the leaderboard in a tough field.
 
William Langworthy continues to be on fire to start the year. He shot back-to-back 71s during the opening two rounds to sit in a tie for ninth place at the end of 36 holes. The 71s are a stroke and a half better than the scoring average of 72.50 that he came into the day with.
 
If he can hold onto, or improve upon, his ninth place standing he will secure three top-10 finishes through the first three tournaments of the year.
 
Kyle McAbee had a strong day too with scores of 73 and 72 to finish just three strokes behind Langworthy in a tie for 17^th overall. He too shot better than his season scoring average of 74.33.
 
Austin Bishop, Dominic Ariondo and Dominic Rodriguez rounded out Biola's counting scores on the first day of competition. This is Ariondo's first tournament of his Biola career. He shot a 79 and 77 to find himself in a tie for 55^th.
 
CSU San Marcos leads the men's tournament by four strokes over South Mountain Community College.
 
The men conclude play with 18 holes beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
