SANTEE, Calif. --- It was an unfortunate ending for Biola Men's Golf during the final round of the 2017 Golden State Athletic Conference Championships. The Eagles shot well enough to place third overall and have a golfer finish in the individual top-3, but a scorecard discrepancy caused the Eagles to finish all the way down in fifth.
 
The men showed great focus and determination all day long at Carlton Oaks Golf Club and carded their best team score of the tournament when they came into the clubhouse with a 316, but the scorecard issue caused the Eagles to have to count a 91 instead of a 77 and the official team score ticked up to 330.
 
That 330 combined with Monday's pair of 323s had the Eagles finish fifth overall with a 976 (+112) as a team. It was two spots lower than they earned and just two stokes shy of being able to finish fourth. Hope International carded a third round 317 to finish the tournament at +111.
 
"[The scorecard issue] was a horrible way to end a strong weekend performance," said Head Coach Max Allen. "He (Austin Bishop) was tied for third individually and now all his efforts don't count for himself or the team. That stings."
 
All in all round three was a challenging day for most as the course played a little bit longer and is really tough just by its nature. The length of the course actually favored one of the Eagles' golfers as we saw Kyle McAbee return to form in his final round of the year. He managed a pair of birdies and a lot of pars to shoot a 77 on day two after two scores over 84 on the opening day.
 
He would finish the tournament as the Eagles' second-lowest official scorer. His three-round tally of 246 (+30) was good enough to get him into a tie for 16^th overall. Cameron Bauer shot a final round of 80 in order to cement himself as the lowest official scorer for BU. The junior finished tied for 11^th on the player leaderboard with a +25 (84-77-80).
 
"Cameron got off to a rough start by going 8-over on the first eight holes, but he made pars all the way in to card 80," said Allen. "It was an exceptional back nine performance considering the toughest holes were on the back."
 
Also finishing for the Eagles was Dominic Ariondo (83 – 82 – 82 | +31) in 19^th and Kaden Page (81 – 84 – 91 | +40) in 26^th.
 
The Master's University (+77) won the team championship and will compete at the NAIA National Championships next month. Johnnie Greco of William Jessup (+9) won the individual title.
 
As announced earlier this month the Biola Men's Golf program is scheduled to be discontinued after this season. We thank all the golfers, supporters, staff, family and friends for their contribution to the team, school and conference.
