LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It was a very good day to be an Eagle up at the Biola Tennis Center as Head Coach David Goodman's teams both earned 9-0 victories over the University of the Southwest (N.M.).
 
Today marks the first time that both Biola Men and Women's Tennis earned 9-0 victories in played matches on the same day since April 12, 2011.
 
"Taliah Hightower got her first win of the season in singles, which was exciting for her," said Goodman. "Most of the matches were pretty close to start and it was good for us to come through in the clutch moments. For the doubles Lauren and Tinisee had their first match together and did well. No. 1 doubles also has been struggling lately so it was nice for them to get a win."
 
The women began the day and got started by winning all four singles matches that were played. USW only had four players dressed.
 
The Eagles trailed in each of the four matches, but showed resilience in coming back to win each and every one of them. Brooke Sanford, Katie Boesl and Taliah Hightower each earned straight-set wins at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4, while Madeline Heer had to work a little extra to earn her win in three sets at the No. 1 slot.
 
Boesl's win at No. 3 was especially grueling. She and her opponent, Daisy Sanchez, played a pair of 7-5 sets.
 
Biola took the confidence of sweeping singles into doubles competition and cleaned up to close out the match. Heer and Kelsey Post won 8-4 at the No. 1 pairing and Lauren Lee paired with Tinisee Kandakai to hold their opponents without a single game at No. 3.
 
The men had to play a full slate of competition against USW and earned a very impressive 9-0 victory with six straight-set singles wins and three dominating doubles victories.
 
Luke Mountain and Philip Westwood had the most convincing doubles victory on the day as they finished with a perfect 8-0 win at No. 2.
 
Westwood also had one of the most impressive singles wins of the day as he held his singles opponent without a game as well (6-0; 6-0). Milos Zoric, playing at No. 5, accomplished the same feat as the Eagles continued to steamroll the competition in the next phase of competition.
 
Michael Vartuli earned his first singles win of the season at the No. 6 spot in the order. He defeated his opponent 6-2; 6-4 and as the final singles match to finish up wrapped up the clean sweep.
 
"For the men, we came out strong in the doubles and dominated from start to finish," said Goodman. "The singles went the same way and we were able to get the upper hand. It was good for Mike to get out I'm the lineup. He's showed improvement over the last few months."
 
Women's Tennis improves to 4-11 with the win. Men's Tennis moves to 6-8 and continues to inch its way back near .500 with four wins in its previous five matches.
