PRESCOTT, Ariz. --- Both Biola Golf programs finished up play at the 2017 Embry-Riddle Spring Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at Antelope Hills Golf Club. The women's team carded a 320 to finish third. The men's team shot a 291 to place fourth.
The men's 291 was a tie for the old program record for best round in program history. They shot a 288 yesterday to set a new mark. Two Eagles ended the tournament at one-under (143) and tied for ninth overall in the tournament.
Austin Bishop followed his round one 71 with a 72 today and
Kyle McAbee finished his round one 72 with today's 71.
Kaden Page also finished inside of the top-15 in the tournament field. He shot an even-par 72 in both rounds to finish 12
th overall and help his team to a fourth-place finish in the eight-team field.
Samuel Shih (+5) and
Tristan Ginkel (+9) also finished up the tournament for the Eagles and helped Head Coach
Max Allen's group set a new program best for two-round tournament score. The Eagles' 579 is 12 strokes better than the team's previous best score, which was shot in the 2013 ERAU Spring Invite.
"This week provided affirmation of our hard work. We saw ourselves enter the top 50 in the NAIA -- before we were 80-something," said Allen. "As much as we want to keep pushing forward this is a good time to stop and look back to see how far we have come. We can appreciate the growth and find motivation to continue the ascent. There is plenty to be excited for and already much to be proud of."
The women's team added six strokes to its round one tally with a 320 during the final day of competition.
Alexis Gopfert shot the Eagles' lowest round of the day during Tuesday's play with a four-over 76. It is the newcomer's lowest round of the season as she improved on her first round 79 in her first tournament for BU.
The Eagles' best scorer for the tournament on the women's side was
Tori Roeske. Roeske shot a round two 78 after putting up a 73 in round one and finished in a tie for sixth place on the individual leaderboard with a +7 overall score.
The women's team also set a new record for two-round tournament score. The 634 ties what they shot at the Firestorm Fall Invitational this year and is 10 strokes better than the previous best shot at 2015's Firestorm Fall Invite.
Both teams will look to follow up their record-setting tournaments with more good stuff their next time out. The men's team will compete at the CBU Spring Invitational on March 20-21. The women will compete at the Ogio-Bulldog Classic hosted by the University of Redlands March 27-28.
