Biola Snatches Fifth Straight Win

Biola defense allowed less than 10 points in three quarters on the way to 64-36 victory.

Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Defensive tenacity never takes a vacation for the Biola Eagles. In its first game back from Christmas break, Alan Nakamura's team got right back in the groove of frustrating an opponent's offense with a 64-36 over the Lethbridge Pronghorns.

Biola restrained the Pronghorns to nine points or less in three of the four quarters and forced 35 total turnovers in a game that was close until late in the third. With 25 steals on the night, the Eagles have nabbed 12 steals or more in four games consecutively.

The home team raced out to a 17-6 margin after the first quarter, riding Joclyn Kirton's play with her back to the basket and DeMoria White's seven points to the double digit lead. Kirton and White finished with 16 and 20 points, respectively.

Kirton would score two more times in the second period, but the offense briefly faltered thereafter as Biola went without any points for the final six minutes leading up to halftime.

The Horns made three lay-ups over that six minute span to bring to game within eight points at the break and continued to roll into the third with more baskets in the paint to bring the score to 25-19 in favor of Biola early in the quarter.

After several minutes of back and forth play, the momentum of the game changed, appropriately enough, on an assertive defensive play from the Eagles. With the ball and only down four at the 2:34 mark in the third, Pronghorns forward Jessica Bachynski drove down the left side of the lane to find senior point guard Annie Park sliding over to take the space.

Park forced a huge turnover when the whistle blew on Bachynski for the offensive foul and the Eagle never looked back. Biola scored 10 unanswered points through the end of the third quarter and went on a 32-8 run in the final twelve minutes of the game.

The explosion in scoring was led by Park and DeMoria White, who made all six of the team's second half three pointers and scored a combined 25 points in the final 20 minutes. Park went a perfect 4-of-4 from beyond the arc in the second half and was one of three Eagles to score in double digits.

Khadidja Diakite and Jessica Shill also had noteworthy final lines on the stat sheet. Diakite nabbed eight steals, five rebounds and two assists to go along with two points, while Shill contributed six points off the bench for the second straight game.

Biola resumes Golden State Athletic Conference Play in its next game, hosting The Master's Mustangs on Tuesday Jan. 3 at 5:30 p.m.
