Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Closing A Chapter

Biola competes in its final Cornerstone Cup matchup against APU and honors Grace Moyers.

LA MIRADA, Calif. — The Biola Women's Basketball team closed out its 2025–26 season with a 53–43 loss to Azusa Pacific on Saturday evening at Chase Gym.

Azusa Pacific set the tone early, opening the game on an 18–5 run in the first quarter while holding Biola to just 1-of-12 shooting in the period.

The Cougars carried that momentum into the second frame, extending their lead to 31–14 at halftime behind efficient perimeter shooting and a dominant presence on the glass. The Cougars' length aided their effort as they had six blocks in the first 20 minutes.

The Eagles responded with their strongest stretch of the night in the third quarter. Biola shot 50 percent from the field in the period and knocked down three three-pointers to outscore APU 18–16, beginning to eat away at the deficit.

Jaycee Goldsmith and Hanne Nybo each connected from beyond the arc, while Laney Grider attacked the paint to each do their part to stymie the Cougars.

Biola continued its improved play in the fourth quarter, cutting the margin to as few as six points after back-to-back layups from Grider capped a long run through the middle of frame. Aliyah Bantolina was a big piece of that run with some acrobatic layups that pressed the APU defense.

However, Azusa Pacific responded with timely second-chance baskets down the stretch to seal the 10-point decision.

Grider led the Eagles with 10 points and six rebounds, while Nybo added nine points and eight boards. Camden Miller contributed seven points and five rebounds off the bench, and Goldsmith chipped in five points and three rebounds.

Biola finished the contest shooting 28.3 percent from the field and 27.8 percent from three-point range, while Azusa Pacific shot 38.9 percent overall and outrebounded the Eagles 39–30.

With the loss, Biola concluded the season at 13–14 overall and 10–12 in PacWest Conference play, while Azusa Pacific improved to 21–8 and 17–5 in conference action. The Cougars will continue play at the PacWest tournament in Point Loma next week.

Before the game, Biola honored its lone senior, Grace Moyers. Grace made a great impact on the team in her one year as an Eagle.

Coach Simonson said this about her contributions:
"Grace has been an incredible addition to our team both on and off the court. She is one of the best shooters I have coached and has hit many big shots throughout her career. In just one season, she has made an impact on our team, so much that she was named one of our captains. Grace has an incredible love for Christ, she has been a light to our team and shown what true surrender to God's will looks like. One thing I admire about Grace is her humility and ability to see others in God's image. Grace is a player you want to coach forever and never graduate. But I am truly glad I got to coach her here at Biola, my time with her I will truly cherish."
