Biola Powers Past CUI

The Biola Eagles defeated CUI 69–54 on Thursday evening.

LA MIRADA---The Biola women's basketball team powered past Concordia University Irvine with a 69–54 win Thursday evening at Chase Gymnasium.

The Eagles set the tone early, jumping out to a 28–19 lead after the first half. Concordia opened the scoring in the first quarter, but Hanne Nybo responded inside to spark Biola's offense and establish a presence in the paint. Nybo continued to anchor the early attack, converting at the rim and at the free-throw line to help the Eagles regain control.

Grace Moyers added a key jumper midway through the first frame, and Danya Dykstra finished a fastbreak opportunity to extend the advantage. Down the stretch, Alyssa Kubo provided a steady hand at the line, knocking down multiple free throws in the final minutes.

The Eagles carried the momentum into the second quarter, outscoring CUI 10-8. Biola's defense took center stage, limiting the Golden Eagles to a 7.1 field goal percentage while they shot 33.33 percent.

Concordia trimmed the margin in the third, but Biola delivered its most dominant stretch in the final frame. The Eagles erupted for 27 fourth-quarter points while shooting an efficient 81.82 percent from the field (9-for-11) and a perfect 2-for-2 from beyond the arc.

Nybo led the Eagles with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting and went a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Laney Grider added 12 points, three assists and three steals, while Aliyah Bantolina and Moyers each contributed 10 points. Jaycee Goldsmith controlled the glass with nine rebounds and added seven points, and Kubo provided a spark off the bench with nine points, converting all seven of her free-throw attempts.

Biola shot an even 50 percent from the field (23-of-46) and 80 percent from the free-throw line (20-of-25), while outrebounding Concordia 37–30.
