LA MIRADA---Laney Grider was named the PacWest Conference's Newcomer of the Year and selected to the All-PacWest Second Team.

"I am so happy for Laney," stated head coach Mike Simonson. "She absolutely deserves this recognition. She was an incredible addition to our team and was a vital piece to our success."

Simonson continued, "Laney not only was our leading scorer but she was our defensive stopper and assist leader. She did a little bit of everything to help our team win. Laney is a flat out winner and the type of player that would rather see our team win than score a bunch of points and gain individual recognition."

Grider, a junior transfer for the Master's University, started in every game this season and led Biola with 887 minutes.

Grider was a conference leader in five categories. She was fourth in the PacWest in points per game (15.2), eighth in the PacWest in field goal percentage (.480), seventh in free throw percentage (.802), eighth in assists per game (3.1) and 18th in steals per game (1.9).

Grider totaled 410 points, 31 three-pointers, 125 rebounds, 85 assists, 51 steals and 10 blocks. She had 22 games with 10+ points, five games with 20+ points and one double double.

"I am so happy for Laney and proud to see that our league acknowledges how special of a player she is," concluded Simonson.
