Box Score FRESNO, Calif. --- It was just a season opening warm-up for the NCAA Division I Fresno State Bulldogs, but Biola did not shy away from the opportunity to step onto the hardwood of a large sports arena and test its mettle against a team that advanced to the Mountain West tournament finals last season.

Although the Eagles showed an admirable work rate that did not stop until the final whistle, Biola lost the first of its three 2016-17 exhibitions against Division I opponents by a score of 50-71.

"Fresno State is an athletic, physical and well-coached team, so it was a good test for us," said Head Coach Alan Nakamura."Our team learned a lot from this experience and we are looking forward to practice on Monday to prepare for the rest of our season."

The Bulldogs wisely crafted a game plan around shutting down DeMoria White from the opening tip. The junior point guard took only three shots from the field in the first two quarters and started the second half without a point to her name.

That did not stop Biola from keeping the game competitive, though. The Eagles went 5-of-9 from the field in the opening period and were just seven points down headed into the second quarter.

But as time elapsed, the longer and more experienced Bulldog team saw more opportunities to command the glass and create second chance scoring opportunities: Fresno State finished the first half with 10 offensive rebounds and 10 second chance points to head into the locker room with a commanding 18-point lead.

Biola was not able to close the deficit in the second half. But it does deserve credit for not letting the game get out of hand against a Division 1 opponent that went 22-12 last season and was selected to the Women's NIT.

Both Annie Park and Emma Newman finished in double figures with 14 and 11 points, respectively. And Tatum Brimley was a big factor off the bench again for the Eagles, contributing six points to the 18 posted by the Eagles' substitutes.

Tory Jacobs led the scoring for Fresno State; the sophomore point guard finished the game with 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting and 3-of-7 from beyond the arc. Starting guard Candice White was close behind Jacobs with 13 points, five rebounds and three steals.

After winning a countable contest at Antelope Valley on Thursday, Biola returns home with a 3-1 record and a three-game winning streak. The Eagles' next game will be inside Chase Gym on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. against the La Verne Leopards (0-0).
