SAN MARCOS, Calif. --- Biola Men's Golf saw its fall season come to a close on Tuesday afternoon as the Eagles completed the final round at the CSU San Marcos Fall Invite.
 
The Eagles finished their tournament with their best round of the event, posting a 309 to hold steady in 14^th place on the leaderboard. Biola finished the tournament at +86 (319-310-309) and were just one stroke back of 13^th, three strokes back of 12^th and six swings back from 11^th.
 
"As a team we were a few under par through the first 4 or 5 holes which was the start we needed," said Head Coach Max Allen. "I was pleased with the improvement in our scoring and our mentality. Yesterday the guys allowed fear to dictate their shots and after a team talk we played boldly."
 
Biola's goal after yesterday's rounds was to move up the leaderboard enough to catch the top-5 teams. After the first two rounds it was the Eagles' Golden State Athletic Conference foe The Master's University that sat in fifth.
 
Ultimately, Biola could not find its way up into those spots as the top of the pack played really well, but the Eagles did finish just three strokes behind the Mustangs who shot 327 on Tuesday.
 
"We almost caught The Master's, but we remained in the same position as we started. Just like the last tournament it came down to a few more strokes," said Allen.
 
Kyle McAbee was Biola's lowest scorer on the day with a final round 76. He completed the tournament with a 228 (+15) overall and was the team's top finisher for the event as he tied for 20^th overall.
 
"Kyle is consistently mid-70s, but you watch the guy swing and putt and you would think he breaks par every time," said Allen. "We will be working to make that a reality next semester. He and I both know he is too good to not win."
 
Four Eagles shot in the 70s during this final round. Dominic Ariondo had the second-best round for BU (77). Then Austin Bishop and Tristan Ginkel followed up with 78s and Samuel Shih rounded out the scoring with an 81.
 
Bishop and Shih finished as Biola's second-best scorers for the tournament at 236 (+23). The finished in a tie for 44^th on the scoreboard of 88.
 
"Dominic Ariondo did well to shoot 77. I like to say Dom is the first to play and last to putt. Meaning he is always the first to play from the fairway because he does not hit it particularly far and despite this he knocks it close almost every time," said Allen. "There were some long holes due to the elevation changes and when you are hitting some of your longest clubs for second shots it can be intimidating. But if anything he owns those shots. I don't think I have seen a player as precise with those clubs as Dominic."
 
An example of Ariondo's ability to make the most of those opening shots with his strong approach game is that he was among the best scorers in the tournament on par-4s. He was +7 on those holes throughout the tournament, which was tied for 10^th best at the tournament.
 
Bishop and Shih showed their potential throughout the tournament by making seven birdies through the 36 holes. They were tied for 14^th among all players.
 
Overall, the Eagles end the fall season with high hopes looking forward to the spring. The talent is definitely there, it is just some minor adjustments that need to be made to have the team at the top of the leaderboard every time out.
 
"This first semester has been a good period to compete and assess, now will be the time to refine our mentality and mechanics as we eye five tournaments next semester. No breaks and no excuses, we are looking to win," said Allen.
