CERRITOS, Calif. --- In an effort to tune-up for this week's USTA/ITA Western Region NAIA Championships four Biola Men's Tennis players competed in the Southern California USTA/ITA Regional at Cerritos College over the weekend.
Â
The quartet of Eagles competed in doubles only as
Lucas Lee and
Luke Mountain paired together and
Philip Westwood and Milos Zoric joined forces.
Â
Both groups of Eagles received first round byes in the draws and advanced straight into quarterfinal play.
Â
Mountain and Lee made quick work of their first opponents in an 8-1 victory. They grabbed a semifinal victory in a closer match at 8-5 to earn the first finals spot in the men's doubles draw.
Â
Westwood and Zoric had an even quicker route to the finals as they got a perfect 8-0 win in the quarters and took an 8-4 win in the semifinals to setup an all Biola finals match.
Â
"It was great to have an all Biola final and for our two teams to play a competitive match against each other," said Head Coach
Brent Worthington.
Â
The two sides split the first two sets before Lee and Mountain pulled out a 10-6 victory in a 10-point tiebreaker to earn the bracket championship (5-7; 6-4; 10-6).
Â
The Eagles compete again in fall competition this Thursday through Saturday at the annual USTA/ITA Western Region NAIA Championship at Biola and La Mirada Regional Park.
