LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- Biola Track & Field added the Oxy Invitational to its schedule just over a week ago, and it worked out nicely for them, getting three more national qualifying performances, a new school record and a personal-best in the steeplechase.
Â
"What an excellent way to end the regular season and get primed for nationals," said Assistant Coach
Collin Christensen. "The mental preparation from our athletes as they prepared for their last attempt at national qualifying was impeccable."
Â
The highlight of the day was when
Morgan Dworak,
Emily Heisinger,
Taylor Holcomb and
Kate Smiley set a new school record in the 4x100m relay. The quartet posted a :47.91 to smash the previous outdoor record (set in 2011) and solidify a good-looking future for the sprint program at Biola (three freshmen and a junior).
Â
Kellian Hunt added another feather to her nationals cap with a 17:35.46 in the 5,000m. She hit the 'A' qualifying mark with the 35
th-place finish.
Brandon Berz represented the guys by hitting a 'B' qualifying standard with a new personal-best in the steeplechase (9:27.59).
Â
Stephanie Croy was less than a second shy of a national wualifying time of her own, but still ran a tremendous race in setting a new PR in the women's steeple. She placed 12
th with a 11:32.97.
Â
"Our athletes acted with grace and integrity, even in a few disappointments," said Christensen. "Now it's on to Gulf Shores!"
