Strong Start in Irvine

Shamblin wins javelin, Hampson leads distance group as Eagles shine on day one at UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. --- The Biola track and field teams competed in the first of two days on the campus of UC Irvine. Led by both field and distance events, the Eagles had a strong day one showing. 

The Eagles opened the day in the field events with solid performances across the board.

In the javelin, Colby Shamblin led the way with a winning throw of 59.30 meters. Elias Voris followed with a 52.96-meter mark for sixth, and Hope Willis added a 41.41-meter throw.

In the high jump, Robbie Porter cleared 2.04 meters to finish fourth. On the women's side, Reese Eckard and Elizabeth Casey each went over 1.54 meters, while Harmony Chennault cleared 1.49 meters.

In the hammer throw, Leah Gilmore recorded a 41.43-meter mark, while Logan Thompson marked at 41.39 meters.

On the track, the Eagles competed in the mid distance events.

In the 1500, Isaac Hampson led the men with a second-place finish in 3:59.70. Carter Hawley won his heat in 4:11.22, while Claire Lesiw also took first in her section with a 4:46.38. Hailey Wurzbach ran 4:30.36 in the top heat, and Elizabeth Kurtz finished in 4:46.50.

In the 800 meters, Jake Sorani posted a 1:57.09 and Brayden Lunetta ran 1:57.70. On the women's side, Ellie Dimitraschchuk finished in 2:18.14, and Grace Regan clocked 2:19.28.

The Eagles will be back out tomorrow for more field events along with sprints.
