SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- Christian Yaotani has just one season of high school track & field experience, but it was a fantastic year as he set or shared a place in the Christian High School record book in four events.
 
"We are looking forward to adding Christian as a leader of an up-and-coming sprint crew for our men," said Assistant Coach Collin Christensen. "He has the intangibles and skill to help take our men's team to a more competitive level, and lead them in a way that's honoring to God.
 
Yaotani was homeschooled through his first two high school years and joined the Patriots' football team when he came in as a junior. He led the football team to league and CIF championships in each of his seasons on the squad. He earned the game ball in his first CIF Championship game.
 
On the track he has the second-best time in school history in the long jump and 100m, third-best time in the 200m and he was a part of a record-setting 4x100m relay team.
 
"Our team really enjoyed meeting Christian," said Kate Smiley. "Just from one practice with him we could tell that he is so hardworking and humble."
 
He enters Biola in fall of 2015 and plans to study international business. His career goal is to build commercial buildings globally and eventually become a missionary.
 
"I chose Biola because when I came on campus it just felt like home to me," said Yaotani. "My full intention was to graduate with a major and minor in Biblical studies, and Biola offered that automatically, so I just felt like God was showing me in many ways that Biola is where He wanted me to be."
