GENEVA, Ohio --- Biola had two relay teams and two individuals compete in day one of the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships and all four finished inside the top-30 in a solid first day at the Spire Institute.
 
"We ran season-bests in both of the relays and saw an outstanding individual effort in the 5,000m by Kevin Horchler," said Head Coach Bill Crumley. "We're looking forward to more great performances tomorrow."
 
Horchler is the only male competing at this event for the Eagles. He ran the 5,000m in 14:53.01 to place third in his heat and record the sixth-best time on the day. He advanced to finals, which will take place on Saturday afternoon.
 
Carrie Soholt was the lone individual women's competitor on Thursday, running an 18:31.25 in the women's 5,000m to claim a 26^th-place finish.
 
Soholt sat out the Eagles' relays, which is where they really made noise on Thursday afternoon.
 
Kellian Hunt, Kate Smiley, Michelle Clark and Anika Gasner finished one spot outside of the top-10 in the distance medley relay, posting a 12:06.68, and Hunt, Gasner, Brooke Arvidson and Kathleen Bell came in 12^th in the Eagles' 4x800m relay run. That quartet posted a 9:24.25.
 
"We saw great competition by our athletes across the board," said Assistant Coach Collin Christensen. "They did a good job of rising to the challenge. Senior Carrie Soholt concluded her indoor track and field career with a gutsy race and set the tome for us for the weekend."
 
Biola continues competition at the event tomorrow, competing in the 1,000m and pole vault.
