Second Round Surge

Biola works its way up to 11th after round two, but falls back to 14th in the end.

Cameron Bauer was one of three Eagles to shoot in the 70s in a great second round.

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. --- Biola began the day on fire on Tuesday, finishing round two with its tournament-best score of 311. The second round moved the Eagles up to 11th before ultimately finishing 14th of 15 teams.

The team shot a final round of 323 in round three to close out the TMC Spring Invitational ahead of only Whittier College. William Langworthy again led the way for the Eagles, shooting the team's low round in each of the three outings in this tournament.

"We must work on having better rounds," said Head Coach Hank Woodrome. "We need to get stronger mentally as a team and not try so hard. If we worry less about the outcome and focus more on the process then our scores should drop."

This tournament was all about teams finishing in bunches, as teams two through six finished within 22 strokes of each other and teams 10 through 13 were separated by just 12 strokes.

Biola would not have been anywhere close to that margin without the efforts from Langworthy, who was fantastic throughout the three rounds. He began with a 76, dropped to a 73 (tying his season-low), and finished with a 77. His three-round tally of 226 (+10) had him finish in a tie for 23rd, just one stroke out of a top-20 finish. His scoring was keyed by great scoring on the par threes (shooting +1).

Lucas Kinan also had a strong tournament, finishing just two strokes away from also shooting three rounds in the 70s, going 78-80-80 for a 238 (+22). He tied for 55th overall.

Cameron Bauer and Samuel Shih were also instrumental in Biola's successful second round, each getting a round in the 70s in the middle of the tournament. Shih became one of just seven players in the tournament to post an eagle. The Eagles' final scorer was Joel Smith, who carded a 256 (+40) to finish 72nd in the 77-man tournament.

Biola Men's Golf is in action next at the California Baptist Men's Invitational March 23-24.
