SANTA CLARITA, Calif. --- Roughly the first half of the three-round TMC Spring Invitational got played on Monday afternoon before darkness and weather caught up with the field, forcing the tournament to be suspended until tomorrow.
 
Through the first round, not counting the partial round two that was played, Biola sits in 13^th place in the 15-team field. The Eagles shot a 317 to sit exactly two strokes behind Simpson and one stroke in front of William Jessup.
 
It looks to be a very competitive field, with UCLA leading the way at a 281 (-7) and six of the top-8 teams sitting within seven strokes of each other. The separation between teams never really expands even further down the leaderboard, as if it can make-up nine strokes over the final two rounds Biola could move up to as high as ninth place.
 
Biola began its round with the back nine, and Lucas Kinan and William Langworthy took full advantage of that first nine holes to build themselves sound rounds in the 70s. Langworthy turned a 36 through nine into a 75 through 18, which is just two strokes off his season-low round. Kinan had the Eagles' second-lowest card, turning his back nine 37 into a 78 overall.
 
Langworthy shot three birdies in his first round, tying him for the third-most in the tournament to this point. He and Joel Smith were also among the leaders in par-three scoring, as Langworthy finished even-par on the short holes and Smith was just +1.

All the golfers had to deal with wet conditions due to rain overnight and a bit of sprinkling in the round, but every team score ended up under the +40 mark, with the highest team score (Whittier College) coming in at 327.
 
Biola will look to keep at least two scorers in the 70s, but preferably add one or two more to that, over the course of the final two rounds on Tuesday. The golfers will finish up round two and then go immediately into round three in what will be a long day of golf.
