VISTA, Calif. --- Missing one of its most consistent players, and a bunch of putts, resulted in a few steps backward for Biola Men's Golf during Tuesday's final round of the CSU San Marcos Cougar Invitational.
 
The Eagles dropped from ninth, to 12^th, to ultimately 15^th at the end of the three-round tournament. The team posted a final four-man score of 972 (+108) to finish 88 strokes behind the tournament winner Johnson & Wales (FL).
 
"It was a frustrating day as no one played well," said Head Coach Hank Woodrome. "Had we just played average we could have beaten two or three other teams."
 
Highlighting the Eagles' final round 336 was two eagles recorded by two separate players on chip-ins. Kevin VandeKamp holed a wedge shot in his second stroke on a par four and Lucas Kinan did the same to get a three on one of the par fives.
 
Kinan was the Eagles' best scorer at the tournament, ending with a final round 84 to complete his tournament score of 240 (+24) to finish with a tie for 55^th in the 91-man field.
 
VandeKamp was set back by his opening round and finished on the opposite end of the leaderboard for Biola, placing 82^nd with a 253 (+37).
 
Despite his score escalating in each of the three times out, Joel Smith was able to post Biola's second-best score for the tournament with a 244 (+28). William Langworthy and Samuel Shih were sandwiched between Smith and VandeKamp with a 246 (+30) and 248 (+32), respectively. Langworthy was the most consistent Eagle at the tournament, shooting an 82-81-83, all three rounds above his season average of 78.43.
 
Johnson & Wales had the individual tournament winner in Peter French, who shot his second round in the 60s of the tournament with a third-round 67. He won by five strokes over the second-place finisher with his 206 (-10).
 
The Eagles finished ahead of Hope International and Menlo and within 13 strokes of Whittier and Simpson after the disappointing final day.
 
Biola looks to work out the kinks to come out strong at its next outing, which occurs in exactly a month at The Master's College Spring Invitational.
