Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The odds were stacked against this Biola Women's Basketball team as it took on a bigger, longer and more experienced Calgary Dinos team on Wednesday afternoon, but the Eagles held the game close throughout much of the day in what ended up as a 49-60 loss.
 
"It was good to get back to playing games," said Head Coach Alan Nakamura. "Calgary is a tough, experienced team and we competed well."
 
Both teams had a tough time getting the ball through the basket throughout the game as the two sides ended up with shooting percentages below 38 percent, which resulted in a low scoring game with a whole lot of times up and down the court.
 
Biola was ready for that style of play because it knew that this Calgary team liked to run the court and did not frequently use the entire shot clock. A nice 11-day break had the Eagles conditioned well for that kind of game, which is what allowed them to hang around until midway through the fourth quarter.
 
DeMoria White was another prime reason the Eagles managed to keep the game close. After a disappointing effort in the last two games nothing was stopping the sophomore guard in this one as she carried the team offensively throughout the night.
 
She would end with a game-high 23 points off of 9-of-16 shooting. White managed the impressive production even with missing two minutes of the game due to injury.
 
After the Dinos held the lead for just over a full quarter, a Taylor Casey layup with just over four minutes to play gave Biola the lead at 49-48. Those were Casey's only two points on the night and would be the final two points BU would score in this one as Calgary scored the final 12 points en route to a victory.
 
Five of those 12 points came by way of made free throws as the Dinos made all of their shots from the line in the final four minutes. That was a much different story than the 1-for-9 from the charity stripe the visiting team started the game with.
 
The difference in performance can be accounted to the vast amount of experience on the Calgary side. The Dinos had six seniors on the floor, with many of them being fifth year players.
 
Two of those seniors, Kristie Sheils and Kelsey Lund, led the Calgary scoring effort. Sheils would finish with 19 points and Lund would end with 15. Both seniors were the team's best shooters from the line too, as they finished 4-of-5 and 3-of-7 on free throws, respectively.
 
The slim difference between the two sides on this day was Calgary's ability to capitalize more frequently on opportunities to get extra points. The Dinos outscored Biola off turnovers (12-8) and points off offensive rebounds (8-4).
 
"We learned a lot today and are working to get better every day," said Nakamura. "I'm excited about our team's potential and chemistry. We'll get back to work tomorrow!"
 
Biola falls to 8-6 with the loss while Calgary moves to 16-7 overall by winning its ninth game in its last 10 tries. The Eagles are back on the court this Friday, New Year's Day, for a 1:00 p.m. matchup with Trinity Western.
