Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- For the second consecutive evening Biola Women's Basketball hung tough with a team ranked No. 10 in the NAIA for 20 of the 40 minutes, but for the second-straight night the team saw its competitive edge disintegrate through the remainder of the game in a tough loss.
 
The Eagles played very well through the first two quarters on Saturday at home against MidAmerica Nazarene, holding onto a two-point lead at halftime, but the second two quarters saw Biola score in the single digits and put out just a combined 15 points in a 47-70 loss.
 
"In the first half we played really well as a team, showed a lot of grit, and made some big plays.," said Head Coach Alan Nakamura. "Unfortunately against a very well-coached, veteran and talented team like MidAmerica we were not able to sustain our game in the second half."
 
Brenna Khaw played a huge role in the early success as she scored 12 points in the first half by going 3-for-3 on first-half three-point shots and making 3-of-4 free throw attempts.
 
As a team the Eagles shot 48 percent from the floor through the first 20 minutes before getting held to just 4-of-22 shooting (18 percent) over the course of the final two quarters. The three-point shot disappeared completely as a weapon as Biola shot 0-of-9 from deep in the second half. These made the Eagles' offense very one-dimensional down the stretch as it became easy for one of the best defenses in the nation to stop.
 
Transition defense after a turnover was a struggle for Biola on Saturday night. The Eagles turned the ball over 21 times, which was just five more times than MNU did on the night, but the Pioneers were able to score 27 points off the turnovers while BU was limited to just seven.
 
In the first half MNU's offense was run primarily inside with Jasmine Webb scoring 13 of the team's 30 points. The second half was more perimeter shooting focused as Webb made just one shot in the half and instead Megan Balcom became the primary weapon (and made four threes).
 
Khaw would end the game with 16 points, a new career-high, to lead all scorers. Behind her was three bigs as Taylor Casey and Emma Newman finished with six and Sara Dougan had five points and seven boards.
 
Inside was the only option for the Eagles down the stretch and that benefitted Jessica Shill who also put in a solid 14 minutes with four points, three rebounds and a block.
 
"It was really exciting to see Brenna Khaw and Jessica Schill come in ready to play. They played with confidence and really sparked our team," said Nakamura.
 
The loss is Biola's second straight following a four-game winning streak. The Eagles fall to 8-5 while the Pioneers improve to 8-2. BU takes the next week and change off for Christmas before returning to action at home on Dec. 30 against the University of Calgary.
 
"I really appreciate the spirit of this team, and I am very thankful to be a part of Biola University," said Nakamura, "After the Christmas break I expect our players to come back excited to see each other, and excited get back to work."
