Second Half Struggles

Biola goes ice cold in the second and third quarters in a 79-49 loss to Our Lady of the Lake.

Taylor Casey had the most efficient offensive game for the Eagles, going 3-of-4 for seven points.
Box Score COSTA MESA, Calif. --- This game flipped on its head coming out of the halftime break as what was a very competitive first two quarters turned into a blowout through the final 20 minutes as Biola lost to Our Lady of the Lake, 49-79.

The Eagles started the game hot with another 20-plus point performance in the first quarter. Biola rode some great early three-point shooting to a 21-15 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.

Brenna Khaw played a big role in that scoring as she stepped back and hit back-to-back threes in the final minute of the first quarter to extend that lead to six points.

The second, third and fourth quarters were all Saints as Biola's shooting percentage dipped way down whiles Our Lady of the Lake continued to break out.

The Eagles were held in the single-digits in both the second and third quarters as Head Coach Alan Nakamura's team could only put out a combined 15 points over that 20-minute stretch.

Meanwhile, OLLU exploded with 38 points to take a 53-36 lead into the final quarter of play. The Saints then doubled-up on the Eagles in the fourth, 26-13,  to continue to run away with the game.

Julia Rendon was the biggest contributor to OLLU's success as she shot 9-of-15 from the floor and 1-of-1 from the line to put up a game-high 26 points. It was the three-point shot that keyed Rendon's performance as she hit seven shots from behind the arc.

That was just one fewer made three-pointer than the entire Eagles' lineup hit on the night. Biola was ice cold from deep in the second half after using it as a tool to hold close to the Saints through the first 20 minutes.

Another area that hurt Biola in this one was the turnover. After the team turned the ball over just twice in the first 10 minutes Biola gave the ball away 23 more times over the final 30 to end the game with 25 turnovers. OLLU capitalized with 24 points off turnovers, including 17 coming in the final two quarters.

No Eagles got into double-digits on this night as DeMoria White and Aubree Mittel led the team with nine points each. Taylor Casey had the most effective evening with seven points on 3-of-4 shooting and five rebounds.

Biola falls to 8-5 with the loss while OLLU improves to 7-2. The Eagles continue their season on Saturday afternoon with a home game against MidAmerica Nazarene.
