Box Score PRESCOTT, Ariz. --- Biola women's soccer accomplished a lot in its first 22 years in existence, but one thing it never did was win six straight matches to start the season. That mark was set on Monday evening when Biola improved to 6-0-0 following a 3-0 shutout win over Embry-Riddle (AZ).
 
"We knew coming into this weekend that it would be tough to keep this streak alive," said Head Coach Todd Elkins. "We were on the road and facing two tough opponents, but we came out determined from the start and it put some early confidence in the team."
 
The Eagles' offense got the game rolling as a fantastic punt from goalkeeper Briana Williams found the feet of Adeline Saldana, who pushed it ahead to Brittney Sayre for a score in the first 10 minutes of play.
 
This goal gave Biola a quick lead and armed the team with the confidence it needed to go head-to-head with the team that had hosted them and Our Lady of the Lake (TX) since Friday of last week.
 
Amanda Lillicrop took matters into her own hands very shortly after Sayre's goal and dribbled the ball around defenders coming off the right wing before burying a perfect shot over the goalkeeper for her fourth goal of the season.
 
This goal gave Biola comfortable lead, but with more than 70 minutes left to play the defense could not let up one bit.
 
"We knew we had to come hard and score early against them, since it would only get more difficult late against them as the host team," said Elkins.
 
It did get a bit more difficult as Kalyn Goodenough, ERAU's all-time leading scorer, and the rest of the squad were really pushing hard on the attack.
 
Catherine Newberry, Michelle Clark and Williams shut Goodenough down throughout though, really earning the team a shutout with fantastic individual defensive performances.
 
The effort and manpower associated with shutting down Goodenough forced the rest of the team to step up to ensure they had numbers back on defense to prevent another member of the opposing team from getting offensive chances, and it worked well throughout.
 
This defensive effort slowed down the Biola attack significantly, but it got a late third goal from Margaret Guadarrama, who booted in a nearly perfect cross from Amanda Otto off a corner kick.
 
Elkins commended his goal scorers on a job well done, but continually emphasized the strength of the defensive performance in this one, proving that this is a team that has talent on both ends of the pitch.
 
"Embry-Riddle scored four goals against Our Lady of the Lake on Friday, so I am very proud of the team defense we played as it was an impressive defensive performance throughout."
 
The Eagles stay on the road for their next two matches, facing CSU San Marcos this Saturday and then traveling to Phoenix to start their conference season against Arizona Christian next week.
