FRESNO, Calif. --- The Biola women's soccer team dominated the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds in a 5-1 road win inside Ramirez Field.
Fresno Pacific struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute. Biola quickly answered, scoring twice in a three-minute span to take control before halftime.
Jade Alverio tied the match in the 33rd minute off an assist from
Briley Phelps, and Phelps then set up
Savannah Patton for the go-ahead goal three minutes later, sending the Eagles into the break with a 2-1 advantage.
Phelps continued to make an impact after halftime, converting a penalty kick in the 52nd minute to extend Biola's lead to 3-1. Four minutes later,
Riley Brumfield found
Ella Martin for another goal, pushing the Eagles' advantage to 4-1.
Phelps closed the scoring in the 90th minute, finding the back of the net for the second time to cap the five-goal performance.
Phelps finished with two goals and two assists, while Alverio, Patton and Martin each added a goal. Brumfield also picked up an assist on Martin's goal.
Laura Brennan started in goal for Biola and made one save over the opening 45 minutes before giving way to
Sami Robinson. Robinson kept Fresno Pacific off the scoreboard in the second half as the Eagles secured the four-goal victory.
"Our team showed excellent character battling back today from 0-1 down to make it 2-1 by halftime," stated Head Coach
Brett Croft. "Every player contributed that was on the trip, truly a team win. We have great players who are remarkable human beings, we are beyond blessed as coaches."
The win moves Biola to 2-2-0 on the season. The Eagles will return to Al Barbour Field on September 10th to take on Cal State San Marcos at 7 p.m.
