Phelps Finds Net in Season Opener

The Eagles battle back in the second half, but fall just short against Cal State LA in their season opener

LA MIRADA --- The Biola women's soccer team opened their 2026 season at home inside Al Barbour field on Thursday night. The Eagles were unable to complete the comeback, losing 2-1 against the visiting Cal State LA Golden Eagles.

Briley Phelps picked up right where she left off last season, slotting the first goal of the season in the 51st minute. Coming off a set piece, Riley Brumfield played a long ball towards the back post to find the head of Phelps for Biola's lone score.

Cal State LA on the other hand scored the first and last goals of the game. The Golden Eagles found the back of the net in both the 16th minute and the 76th minute. 

Laura Brennan and Sami Robinson split time in goal. Brennan played the first 45 making a key stop to keep CSULA off the board. Robinson played the second half, stopping two shots. 

Taylin Laws, Riley Brumfield, Taylor Bradshaw, Hayden Gehring and Cassidy Sims saw time the majority of the match, playing a minimum of 75 minutes.

The Eagles will be back in action on the road against Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday night, August 29th at 6 p.m.
