Orange Lutheran Standout Comes To Biola

Lucas Beltran took a year off to study at Arizona, but will pick up the clubs for Biola.

CORONA, Calif. --- Men's golf continues to stockpile its young talent with the addition of Orange Lutheran High School's Lucas Beltran.

Beltran commits to bring his talents to the Eagles' squad following four seasons on varsity for the Lancers. He had an average nine-hole score of 38 throughout his high school years, including a three-under round against big-time opponent Mater Dei High School.

"Lucas was a very solid player in high school," said Men's Golf Coach Hank Woodrome. "He is a nice kid with very high character. He will make an immediate impact and is excited to play."

Beltran looks to make a similar impact for the Eagles as he had with the Lancers. He was the team MVP in 2010, and he was named to the All-Trinity League second team in 2013.

He played a mix of nine-hole and 18-hole rounds, with his personal best in an 18-hole go-around coming in at 75. He rose to the occasion when he got that mark, as it came in the league finals in 2013.

The Lancers placed third in the CIF tournament in 2012, and they moved up to second in 2013 with Beltran serving his senior season as captain. He was given the Lancer award for golf skill and character as a senior.

Beltran comes to Biola following one year at the University of Arizona. He focused on his studies during his time in Tucson, Arizona, and he compiled a grade point average of 3.3.

"I chose Biola to further my relationship with God and be able to continue my golf career," said Beltran.

He enters Biola in the fall and will study psychology.
