LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The spring season is officially over for Biola Athletics, but the award season definitely is not. The Eagles added a few more feathers to their cap on Wednesday with three more NAIA Scholar-Athlete recognitions.
 
Boone Farrington and Rob Groeschell both earned a nod for baseball, while Celina Thornton represented softball on the NAIA's list of academically gifted athletes.
 
Thornton had a solid senior season behind the plate and in the outfield for the Eagles. Her leadership helped Biola reach the NAIA postseason for the first time in over a decade, and she was also named to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District team. This is her second career NAIA Scholar-Athlete nod, and she earned the honors while working to a 3.61 cumulative GPA as a Christian ministries major.
 
On the field she had one of the best gloves on the squad, compiling a .987 fielding percentage. She was also known for being so skilled with the bat she led the Golden State Athletic Conference with 27 sacrifices.
 
Farrington and Groeschell were also named Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-district athletes, and Farrington was recently crowned as a Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American.
 
Farrington was also an All-GSAC athlete on the field over the course of this, his senior season. He hit .335 with double-digit doubles and 24 RBI in a season that proved he was a very talented, polished NAIA hitter. He ranked in the top-15 in the GSAC in all three triple slash line categories.
 
He earned a cumulative GPA of 3.74 while studying sociology.
 
Groeschell got off to a hot start to the season, and he was the best hitter in the Eagles' lineup throughout the first third of their schedule. Ultimately, he ended the year as one of their most consistent offensive threats, but was especially valuable in center field, where he made numerous handfuls of masterful defensive plays.
 
This is his first career NAIA Scholar-Athlete nod, and it comes after getting a GSAC Scholar-Athlete honor earlier this season. He earned a cumulative GPA of 3.61 while studying upper-level business administration coursework.
 
All three of these student-athletes needed to meet the NAIA Scholar-Athlete requirements in order to obtain the honors. They had to be of at least junior academic standing and maintain a cumulative grade point average above 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
