COSTA MESA, Calif. --- Biola had to play without its normal No. 1 and felt the effects of that during its 9-0 loss against a very solid No. 4 Vanguard squad.
The Lions lineup is stacked from top to bottom, with its singles players having a combined 84-18 mark, with a 44-4 record in Golden State Athletic Conference singles competition.
Vanguard steamrolled right through Biola's lineup, which, up until very recently, had been performing well in GSAC competition. Today though, the Lions won each doubles match 8-1 and allowed just one Eagle to get up to four games won in any one set.
The 9-0 win helped the Lions improve to 8-0 in conference play and clinch the regular-season conference championship. The Eagles on the other hand fell to 8-13 overall and saw their conference mark slip to 4-5.
Both teams will have one more GSAC regular-season contest before the GSAC tournament begins April 16 at Westmont. Biola's final regular-season match is also at Westmont this Saturday.
