PALM SPRINGS, Calif. --- What has been a tremendous season of success and growth came to a close at the historic Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Wednesday.

The Eagles were shutout by No. 4 Vanguard for the third time this season as they suffered a 5-0 defeat at the hands of the Lions in the GSAC Tournament Semifinals.
 
The loss leaves Biola's season record at 9-16, marking their highest win total since the program reemerged in 2007. Brandon Chang and Luke Mountain also made some history this season, as they were the first double-digit singles match winners in this new era of Biola men's tennis.
 
While Wednesday's loss was a sour note, the Eagles can be proud of their effort against one of the most stacked teams in all of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
 
Lucas Lee and Mountain had the most successful day, as the duo was actually able to hang very close with the Lions' pairing of Miguel Saiz Perez and Justin Seller at No. 2 doubles. The match ended 9-7 in favor of Vanguard, but was a little too close for comfort for the Lions pairing that now must face stiff competition as Vanguard advances to the GSAC Tournament Championships.
 
The match on Wednesday ended as soon as Vanguard won its second singles match to clinch the victory. Stefan Kilchhofer and Michael Rjaznov both earned straight-set victories at the No. 1 and No. 6 slots to finish off Biola's competitive season.
 
The Eagles will have a few more chances to compete together as they participate in the Ojai Tennis Tournament later this month, but team competition comes to a conclusion following today's postseason loss.
