LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It was a monumental win on Wednesday morning, as Biola defeated Pacific Lutheran 7-2 to improve to seven wins on the season. The seventh win gives the Eagles the most wins in recent program history, since resurfacing in 2007.
Â
The last time Biola came close to winning seven was when they ended with six victories in 2010. The Eagles won a combined seven games over the previous two seasons, making this year's 7-9 record a very welcome surprise.
Â
"It is nice to see some improvement," said Head Coach David Goodman. "The future of the tennis program looks promising."
Â
Biola dominated play against the Lutes in nearly every facet today, especially in singles play. The Eagles got five straight-set victories, and out of its 10 set wins, all but one was a decisive victory.
Â
Lucas Lee set the example at No. 1 singles, allowing just one game win to his opponent as he cruised to his second consecutive win and sixth overall.
Â
Brandon Chang also played well on the way to his fourth straight singles victory. His .563 singles winning percentage is the highest on the team this season, and he sits one win away from reaching double-digits. The entire Eagles lineup won just 14 singles matches last season.
Â
"In singles we have played the best we have all season," said Goodman. "We also played solid at one and two doubles, leading the whole way in those matches. It really took some pressure off of us."
Â
Luke Mountain,
Isaiah Pekary,
Tayven Townsend and Lee combined to hold the Lutes to 11 game wins in the two most pivotal matches Biola got wins in on the morning.
Â
Those two teams continued to improve on their up-and-down seasons by getting their combined record to 11-14.
Â
The Eagles move to 7-9 and drop the Lutes to 2-9 on the 2014 campaign. Biola will head up north to face Fresno Pacific this Saturday for a chance to avenge a 1-8 loss from earlier in the season.
