Whitman Wins By A Landslide

The Eagles put up a fight, but were unable to get a point against Whitman College on Wednesday.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It was another tough day on the courts for Biola as the Eagles had to face a very talented Whitman College team.

The Missionaries entered the afternoon contest with a winning record and the No. 16 ranking in the NCAA Division III and made quick work of the Eagles in a 9-0 match.

Biola kept most of the sets close, making it a lengthier match for a clean sweep, but the team was only able to win one of them on the afternoon.

The Missionaries made their way through the three doubles contests in quick fashion, winning 8-1, 8-2 and 8-1.

The competition level rose in the singles competition, which saw the return of Biola's No. 1 Kathryn Ashford. Her battle with Whitman's No. 1 Jenna Dobrin was not the most competitive of the afternoon, but it set the Eagles on the right track as they battled the Missionaries.

"It was a hard fought match and our players never gave up," said Head Coach Dee Henry. "We pressured them to the very end."

The No. 5 battle was the closest of the afternoon as the Eagles got some great play out of Maura Lopez. She lost the first set 6-4, but was able to take set two by the same score. Lopez put in a big fight to get close to securing a point for Biola, but fell just short as Allie Wallin made a push to get a 10-6 win.

The Eagles dropped to 3-12 with the latest loss and now must hit the road to face a 0-5 Mills College team on March 22.
