Eagles Fall to PLNU in Quarterfinals

Eagles push No. 2 seed to the limit in PacWest quarterfinals

SURPRISE, Ariz.---The Biola women's tennis team battled to the very end but fell 4–3 to nationally-ranked No. 33 Point Loma in the quarterfinals of the PacWest Championships.

Entering the tournament as the No. 7 seed, the Eagles pushed the No. 2-seeded Sea Lions to the brink.

Point Loma captured the doubles point and carried a 1–0 lead into singles play.

Biola responded in singles with strong performances across the middle of the lineup, highlighted by Kailee Mazzeo's 6–4, 6–4 win on court two, Alessia Radu's 6–3, 6–3 victory on court four, and Yeo Kyung Kim's dominant 6–2, 6–2 win on court five.

The Sea Lions managed to record victories on the first, third and sixth courts. Courts three and six fell in three sets. Dafne Andres won her first set 6-1, lost her second 3-6 and ended up falling in a third-set tiebreak. Isabelle Karam also won her first set 6-2, lost the second 5-7 and would drop her third set 2-6.

Despite the loss, the Eagles demonstrated resilience and depth, challenging one of the conference's top teams and nearly pulling off the upset.

Biola now moves into the consolation bracket and will compete for a spot in the fifth-place match. BU plays Dominican tomorrow Thursday, April 16 at 1 p.m. The winner will play in the fifth-place match on Friday, April 17 at 1 p.m.
