LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola suffered through its 10^th loss of the season in a rough 8-1 showing against Sewanee University on Saturday afternoon.
 
Biola's only point of the day came off of Olivia Koelsch's performance at No. 6 singles. It was Koelsch's first singles match of the entire season, so she gets to move to 1-0.
 
She earned her win in a runaway rout of the Tigers' Mariah Smith, a sophomore who entered play with a 2-1 record on the season in singles play.
 
"Olivia combined good shot selection, great variety, sound groundstrokes and crisp volleys to win at No. 6," said Head Coach Dee Henry.
 
Koelsch, also a sophomore, earned the win in straight sets (6-2, 6-2).
 
Biola was swept at doubles, but did not go down without a fight. The No. 2 doubles match was especially intriguing as Susan Carmichael and Kathryn Ashford fought their way to a close 8-6 loss.
 
The duo found themselves down 7-4 in a match that seemed to be going the way of Biola's other two losses, but they fought to battle three match points in the 12^th game to pull within two at 7-5. The heat began to take its toll on some of the players and Sewanee was able to eventually lock down the match by winning one of the next two games.
 
Following doubles play Henry's lineup had to adjust as Ashford had to pull out due to an injury. Each athlete had to bump up one spot in the order and take on an unexpected opponent.
 
"Everyone gave their best at their new spot and we emerged stronger as a result," said Henry. "What an awesome group to represent Biola women's tennis."
 
The Eagles drop to 3-10 on the season following the loss, and Sewanee improves to 8-2 following its seventh straight win.

Biola gets back on the courts at the Biola Tennis Center on Tuesday for an afternoon affair with McPherson College.
