Eagles Prounce On Panthers

Biola earns its third win of the season with a 7-2 drubbing of Principia.

Susan Carmichael combined with Kathryn Ashford to win at No. 2 doubles. It was their fifth straight win.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola picked up its third win of the season on Tuesday afternoon with a dismantling of Principia College, which made the trip all the way from Illinois.

The Eagles dominated the match throughout, winning all but one match of singles and one match of doubles.

The Panthers picked up a big win against the Eagles at No. 1 doubles, pushing back against the otherwise stellar performances by the Eagles big hitters.

Biola stormed back after the 8-2 loss at No. 1 to shutout the Panthers in the second doubles spot behind the strong teamwork of Kathryn Ashford and Susan Carmichael.

"Kat and Susan blend well in every aspect," said Head Coach Dee Henry. "One sets it up and the other closes, and then the other partner set it up a little differently and their partner closed."

Ashford and Carmichael are now 6-2 on the season, and they have won five consecutive matches. Paige Erickson and Lauren Vogel combined for just the second time this season to get the Eagles' second win in doubles.

Those four and the Eagles' No. 6, Maura Lopez, got Biola's five wins at singles to take the huge advantage they ended with. Lopez won her match in a final third set after splitting the first two with Principia's Caitlin Carney.

"Maura maintained the calmness needed to come back and win the super breaker," said Henry. "Our depth was the key to our match today."

Biola sits at 3-8 and has a chance to improve when they face No. 14 Concordia at home on Thursday.
