COMMERCE, Calif. --- Another solid day of swimming is in the books and Biola saw a record fall, seven new swimmers make national qualifying times and two individual event wins.
 
Much stayed steady in the team standings following the second of three days of competition at the 2014 Collegiate Winter Invite. The men's team didn't win any events, but finds itself in fourth place of the eight teams. The women's side sits at 878 points with a firm grip on fifth of nine teams. The women sit just 19 points behind Pomona-Pitzer for fourth place.
 
"I was so impressed with how well everyone swam today," said Head Coach Eddie Shepard. "I knew that we would swim well at this meet, but our swimmers have far exceeded all our expectations."
 
Six men reached new national qualifying standards, with all of them punching their ticket to Oklahoma City for the first times this season.
 
The 200-freestyle was an especially fast event for the Eagles as Matthew Flodin (1:48.16), Michael Severi (1:47:02) and Scott West (1:47.64) all met the standards. Bretton Smith and James Daughters qualified in the 50-freestyle, with Charles Nanfria hitting the mark in the 100-freestyle.
 
"I am particularly proud of how many new swimmers qualified for nationals today," said Shepard. "I am really excited to see how they swim on our final day of competition."
 
Christine Tixier broke a nearly four-year old school record in the 100-breaststroke. She won the event by just under three seconds to break April Smith's 2010 record with a time of 1:04.93.
 
She and Lisa Tixier had the only individual wins on the afternoon, with the younger sister swimming a 2:07.01 to win the 200-individual medley. Biola also placed first in the 200-freestyle and 400-medley relays.
 
Victoria Turner was the only new national qualifier on the women's side. She swam a :25.72 in the 50-freestyle to finish 17^th overall. Sophia Dammann and Cort Sharp added additional national qualifying times.
 
The Eagles are back in the pool tomorrow morning to finish up their time at La Verne's invitational.
