Delightful Day Two

Caleb Pook highlights day two’s competition with his fifth PCSC diving title

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. --- The Biola swim and dive teams took on day two of the Pacific Collegiate Swim & Dive Conference Championships looking to move up in the overall standings.

After two days of competition, the men remain in second place behind UC Santa Cruz while the women move into third, trailing UC Santa Cruz and Cal State East Bay. 

Records were broken in the 400 Medley relays. Malia Ciolli, Phoebe Munholland, Allison Yancey, and Emilee Elizondo combined to break a year old record by over half a second with a time of 3:47.86. The team of Nathan Griffin, Andrew Hanson, Jack Snyder, and Koen Vos swam to a school record of 3:19.88, breaking the previous record by two seconds. In the 200 Free Relay both the men and the women placed third with times of 1:23.84 and 1:35.67 respectively. 

Elizondo was the first to podium on day two for the Eagles. With a time of 55.95 in the 100 Butterfly, she locked down third place. Yancey followed with a sixth place finish, securing necessary points for BU. In the men's 100 Fly, Griffin and Hanson finished back-to-back, securing two top eight finishes for Biola.

The 400 IM saw five Eagles finish consecutively. Ciolli secured ninth, in front of Chloe Colvard, Lydia Hawthorne, Addy McCullough, and Colette Friedley. On the men's side, it was a similar story. Anthony Ramirez (7th) finished ahead of Tate Fitzgerald (8th) and Karter McNutt (9th), rounding out the top-10. Noah Hall and Wyatt Miller were just outside, finishing 11th and 13th. 

More top-8 finishes came in the 200 Free, courtesy of Morgan Carles and Rachel Munch, who finished .16 seconds apart. Esther Swanson secured a top-24 finish, boosting Biola's point totals. 

Vos was the highest finisher for the Eagles on day two, locking down second place in the 200 Free with a personal-best, 1:39.04. Alejandro Marchesini (5th), Samuel Slezak (7th), and Josh Peace (9th) rounded out the top-10 for BU, while Jonathan De Dios (12th) and Ben Smith (18th) solidified spots in the top-20.

On the 1-meter board, Caleb Pook sealed first place with 466.90 points. Zac Siewert, in his first conference championship, followed in third with 371 points. On the 3-meter, Suzy Li and Lauren Smith finished back-to-back in sixth and seventh place. 

Day three will continue tomorrow (Feb. 13th) starting at 9:30 a.m.
