SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. --- Emma Newman is going to be a med school student in the future, but first she will suit up for Biola's women's basketball team after signing her commitment in early-November.
 
The 6-foot-2-inch senior from Arizona is Biola's third of a trio of six-footers to sign during this offseason. The average height of the Eagles' 2015-16 team is sure to go up a few inches with the additions of Newman and the other talented forwards.
 
She's spent the past few years playing high school ball around Arizona and California, at Palisades Charter High School and Scottsdale Preparatory Academy. Newman captained the Palisades Charter HS Dolphins to state playoffs and a spot in the DI state semifinals.
 
"Emma is a quality addition to our Biola Women's Basketball family," said Head Coach Dr. Bethany Miller. "She is a talented and versatile forward who is excellent in everything she does on and off the court. Emma has a high basketball IQ, sees the floor well and will do much to create scoring opportunities for herself and others."
 
Newman has averaged around 10 points per game throughout her varsity career and had one season where she averaged eight-plus rebounds per contest.

Her junior year at Palisades saw her named to the 2014 Los Angeles City Section All-League Western first team. She also got featured as the player of the week by SoCal Prep Report TV.
 
Newman's posted all these numbers and accolades while maintaining a 3.97 un-weighted grade point average, and she intends to enter Biola as a pre-med major.
 
"I chose Biola because I waned to learn at a Christ-focused university and play basketball with Christ-minded peers to bring glory to God," said Newman. "Also, with a well-known pre-med program, I will be able to achieve my dream of becoming a doctor with a more competitive skill set."
 
Newman will begin classes at Biola next fall and suit up with the Eagles beginning in November 2015.
