LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It was a challenging year for men's golf as they battled through a bunch of middle of the pack finishes. They found some success at Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) though, placing fifth in two tournaments hosted by ERAU.
The men's squad battled on the final day to finish fifth in the fall season's co-ed tournament hosted by Embry-Riddle. Their final round score (293) was 11 strokes better than the average of their first two rounds (303-305). They were led by
Joshua Mathis who finished the tournament under par and in third place overall.
After a few back of the pack finishes to finish the fall season and begin the spring, the Eagles returned to Embry-Riddle ready to turn the season around. Consistency was key in this tournament as the Eagles turned in two respectable rounds (297-294).
Biola finished fifth once again, but this time they were just one stroke behind Northwood University (Mich.) for fourth place. Northwood's Robert Marsh finished fifth overall in the tournament and was key to the Timberwolves' securing fourth place.
A trio of 12th place finishers, all shooting 147 for the tournament led the Eagles, and all five of Biola's counting scores were within 13 strokes of the individual leader.
After the spring invitational at ERAU, the Eagles went on to end their season with a sixth place finish at an National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics national championship qualifying tournament.
What is Turning Points?
Turning Points is a series highlighting the integral points from each Biola University sport's previous season. Moments can be considered turning points because they spark a winning streak, defeat a bitter rival, include a noteworthy personal achievement or mark a significant team accomplishment. Over the course of the next three weeks, an article will post each weekday illustrating a new turning point.
