IRVINE, Calif. --- Biola put the finishing touches on competition before the NAIA Indoor Championships by qualifying six additional events for the championship meet at the Concordia University Indoor Last Chance Meet on Saturday afternoon in Irvine.

Three athletes earned an automatic berth to the Indoor Championships. Leading the way was freshman Kellian Hunt, who won a pair of events both in automatic qualifying times. Hunt had a strong showing in the mile, winning the event in just over five minutes at 5:00.74. She came back later in the meet and took first in the 1,000 in 2:58.48.

Biola's other automatic qualifiers were Alexandra Sciarra, who finished second in the 600 in 1:37.37, and Danny Ledesma, who also finished second in the 3,000 in 8:40.73.

Ledesma was also part of the men's distance medley relay team which earned a provisional qualifying time. Ledesma teamed with Andrew Daedler, James McCahon and Shane Brinson to finish in 10:22.49.

Daedler also earned a "B" cut in the 1,000 by winning the event in a time of 2:32.69, just under the qualifying time of 2:33.10.

Rounding out the qualifiers was Anika Gasner, who finished third in the 600 with a provisional time of 1:38.08.

Other solid performances came in the field events. Marc Opena broke his school record in the 60 high hurdles with a time of 8.46. His previous best was 8.61 set last month in the first meet of the season.

Nicole Falkenstein won the pole vault by clearing 3.5m while Joel Pixler took home second in the high jump by clearing 1.60m.

Biola opens the outdoor season next week, traveling to the University of La Verne Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 23. The Eagles compete in the NAIA Indoor National Championships the following week.
