SAN MARCOS, Calif. --- A shaky start to the final round of the CSU San Marcos Fall Classic left the Eagles scraping to make up strokes in the waning holes, but they just could not overcome the deficit and finished the tournament in 10^th place.
 
"The men finished strong today, but unfortunately made too many mistakes early in the round," said Head Coach Hank Woodrome. "Yesterday's second round was encouraging as four players shot in the 70s. Our players all have the ability to shoot in the 70s on a regular basis, we just need to focus on the mental side of things."
 
Biola came in at 326 in the third round, after shooting a 313 in yesterday's middle round of the 54-hole tournament. The dropped from eighth place to 10^th after day two as Redlands held on to win the overall team title with an 11-under total score of 853.
 
Redlands placed four of their golfers in the top 10, but it was Preston Valder of UCLA who shot a total score of 205 (-11) to win the individual title.
 
Biola's best scorers were William Langworthy and Max Allen who tied for 45^th with three-round scores of 239 (+23). Allen shot an 83 on day two, and Langworthy entered the clubhouse with an 82.
 
Lucas Kinan had the best round of the day for Biola, turning in a 78, he was the only Eagle to improve upon his second round score. Kinan wrapped up his tournament in 47^th. Micah Mathis ended the tournament by shooting a 93 on day two, he shot a 79 yesterday, which was Mathis' best round of the fall season. The junior ended up finishing in 56th place with an overall score of 263 (+47).
 
Sandwiched between these two was Kevin Vandekamp, who shot an 83 today to finish the tournament in 51^st with a 249 (+33).
 
The 10^th place finish at this tournament is the worst finish of what has been a disappointing first three tournaments of the year.
 
"We need to lower our stroke average between three and five shots per player by the spring season," said Woodrome. "That would make this team very competitive and can be achieved with hard work, better coaching and better mental preparation."
 
The team will take a hiatus until the spring season tees off in February.
