IRVINE, Calif. --- Biola won six events including the women's Distance Medley Relay earning an NAIA auto qualifying mark for the fifth-straight year as the Eagles opened the 2013 Indoor Track and Field season at Concordia University on Saturday.

The women's DMR team of Ilima Kung, Alexandra Sciarra, Anika Gasner and Chelsea Janzen finished in 12:27.55, finishing 15 seconds faster than the NAIA automatic qualifying time. This is the fifth consecutive year this relay has qualified for the Indoor Nationals.

Marc Opena was solid in the 60 high hurdles, winning the event with a time of 8.61 to break his own school record. His previous best (and the former record) was an 8.76 last year at Azusa Pacific.

Other individual winners were Alisa Murray in the women's 800 with a time of 2:21.82 and Nicole Falkenstein in the women's pole vault, clearing 3.25 meters.

The men's distance medley team of Joseph Harabedian, James McCahon, Shane Brinson and Peter Ingraham took home top honors as did the women's 4x400 relay team of Tayllor Lemphers, Sciarra, Gasner and Kate Smiley (4:06.92).

With a number of unattached individuals in the competition, Biola also had its athletes finish as the highest collegiate finishers in a few events. Lauren Houck finished second in the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.62. Elyse Harabedian and Lauren Houck tied for second in the high jump at 1.52m. On the men's side, Jordan Smith finished third in the high jump by clearing 1.85 meters. Two unattached athletes were ahead of him including one who competed in the summer Olympics. Jeff Tran finished third in the pole vault preceded by a pair of unattached athletes.

Biola returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Azusa for the Azusa Pacific Indoor Qualifier.
