Biola Wins Final Two Matches to Down Sewanee, 5-4


LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola took the final two individual matchs with Isaiah Pekary clinching the victory at No. 5 singles in a hard-fought 5-4 victory over Sewanne University of the South (Tenn.) on Monday afternoon at the Biola Tennis Center.

The Eagles improve to 3-7 with the victory while the Tigers fall to 6-4. 

Biola opened the match strong by sweeping the doubles matches, winning easily 8-1 at No. 1 doubles (Weston Leopold and Brent Worthington) and taking No. 2 (David Mossman and Thomas Coibion) and No. 3 (Pekary and Anthony Sena) by scores of 8-5.

However, the tables turned in the singles competition with Sewanee winning four-straight matches to take the overall lead at 4-3. Biola battled back and Mossman picked up a big win at No. 2 singles, winning 6-3 and 6-4 to tie the match. Pekary then wrapped up the match by winning 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 singles.

The victory was the second in the last three matches for Biola, which returns to GSAC play on Tuesday, hosting Vanguard University beginning at 3:30 p.m.
