Adijat Adams roared back into action with a 23-point performance to lead Biola to a 63-43 victory over the University of Victoria at the Biola Holiday Classic on Friday night at Chase Gymnasium.
The Eagles improve to 7-5 with the victory while dropping the Vikes to 6-5 on the season.
Adams had a solid night with 23 points on 11-of-17 shooting to lead Biola. Freshman Aubree Mittel came off the bench to score 15 points thanks to 4-of-5 shooting from three-point range.
The Eagles used a big second-half to take control of the game after struggling in the first half. The teams went back and forth through the first 20 minutes of the contest with Victoria leading by as many as four. The Vikes led by three with 1:53 to play in the half after a free throw by Jessica Refrew.
However, the Eagles closed the half on a six-point run capped by a three-pointer by Amy Freet, who scored five of those six points, and took a 29-26 lead to the break.
Biola opened the second half strong, outscoring Victoria 14-5 over the first seven minutes of the half to take a 43-31 lead. The Vikes closed the gap back to eight with a short run, but back-to-back three-pointers by Mittel quickly stretched the lead back up to 14 and started a 10-0 run over the next five minutes.
The Eagles continued to cruise the rest of the way, holding Victoria to just 17 points in the second half as the Vikes hit 8-of-34 from the field over the final 20 minutes.
Senior point guard Becca DeVere came close to an unorthodox double-double, recording 10 rebounds and adding six assists. She also had four steals and two points in 30 minutes. Chelsea Hill had a team-high 12 rebounds, adding seven points and three assists.
Freet added seven points and seven rebounds along with two steals for the Eagles.
Jessica Renfrew scored 15 points to lead the University of Victoria as the only Vikes player to score more than six points.
Biola closes out the tournament on Saturday, hosting NAIA Division II No. 10-ranked Olivet Nazarene University at 7:30 p.m. NAIA Division I No. 3-ranked Vanguard University hosts the University of Victoria at 5:30 p.m. The Lions defeated Olivet Nazarene 89-77 on Friday.
